BARNEY SMITH 2008

If you watched the 2008 Democratic National Convention you couldn't help but be inspired by the words of Barney Smith of Marion, Indiana. With all due respect to career politicians, don't you just wish you could vote for a regular, hard working guy like Barney? I sure do! For now, we can honor his endorsement of Senator Barack Obama, but let us HOPE that he will hear our collective support and decide to run for office himself. If not, perhaps a wise President Obama will see it in his heart to appoint Barney to a high-level cabinet position.

All I know is that the time has come for America to see that Mr. Smith Goes to Washington once again.

If you haven't figured it out yet, this website is totally tongue-in-cheek. It's kind of a joke, people. The maker of this page believes that we need the values of an average American citizen in the White House. The maker of this page believes in the power of the individual to make a huge difference -- like in the fantastic, classic movie Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. But the maker of this page is also a realist. He fully realizes that Brewster's Millions is a work of fiction, too. Embrace the satire, people. Make up your own mind about for whom you will cast your vote. And just enjoy this page for what it is: One guy's appreciation of the character and fortitude it takes for an average American citizen like Barney Smith to stand up in front of a national crowd and profess his love for his country and his support of a candidate. Regardless of which candidate you cast your vote for this November, you have to admire this guy. He certainly has my respect.
